The former director of the Braunschweig Archives, Dr. Richard Moderhack, asked the Foundation of Lower Saxony to administer a foundation he intended to endow with a capital of some 125,000 Euros. The foundation benefits the Historical Commission for Lower Saxony and Bremen. Research into the history of Lower Saxony up til the end of the Empire is the focus.
In October 2002, the Foundation of Lower Saxony welcomed the Richard Moderhack Foundation as a subsidiary.
