The Konrad Liebmann Foundation

Dr. Konrad Liebmann's Dürer Collection was the first subsidiary of the Foundation of Lower Saxony, taken into its fold in 1996. The Foundation purchased part of the collection - the main engravings, the large series (the Apocalypse, the Great Passion, the Life of the Virgin, the Small Woodcut Passion and the Engraved Passion) and printed books; the remainder was given to the Foundation as an endowment. The entire collection has been permanently loaned to the Museum of Cultural History in Osnabrück, which has made fine provisions to guarantee the collection's availability to the public in the years to come. At the beginning of 1997, all the works were put on temporary exhibition and described in a catalogue. Following the completion of major renovation in 2000, the museum's new Graphics Chamber has provided a permanent home for the collection.

In the winter of 1999/2000, the collection was loaned to the Czartoryski Museum in Krakow, Poland, for a major exhibition. In autumn of 2002, it travelled to Sibiu/Hermannstadt in Rumania, where the Brukenthal National Museum exhibited the works.

The highlight of 2003 was the exhibition »Albrecht Dürer - Nemesis« at the Cultural History Museum in Osnabrück on the occasion of the 475th anniversary of Dürer's death. The author of the comprehensive catalogue »Albrecht Dürer - Das große Glück« (ISBN 3-935326-91-2) is Thomas Schauerte.
