The Foundation of Lower Saxony was founded and endowed in 1986 by the State of Lower Saxony (Niedersachsen). Its mission is to support science, education, the arts and culture contributing to the public interest and the development of the State of Lower Saxony.
The Foundation makes a particular contribution with its operative division. Its programs include the Hannover International Violin Competition, the Cultural Landscapes Programm, a literary programfor German-language authors and a Scholarship Program for Journalists and Young Professionals in Eastern Europe .
The Foundation of Lower Saxony concentrates its project funding throughout the state on culture and the cultural sciences and on cultural education and communication. The funding focus is on structural measures and projects that contribute to Lower Saxony's development. Project quality is a top priority.
The Foundation of Lower Saxony acts as a trustee for subsidiary foundations. It provides competent administrative support to private initiatives devoted to the public sector.
A state foundation, the Foundation of Lower Saxony is also profiled as a European regional foundation. One of its goals is to draw attention to Lower Saxony's strengths at a European and an international level.
